ECO Sustainable Circular Production

For forty years, Emmetex has manufactured high quality woven and plastic labels, ribbons, hang tags, back pocket labels, crests and embroidery for a vast range of product categories in the textile and clothing sector. Constantly striving to research and develop innovative solutions, Emmetex has engaged in the global discussion on sustainability by introducing projects tied to the circular economy.

After having replaced the use of virgin polyester yarn with recycled, made from recycled PET bottles, the Tuscan company is now set to meet a decidedly more ambitious milestone: cutting waste and combating throw-away culture. To that end, Emmetex recently developed a new circular model. This involves the company moving away from the traditional linear production process, based on transformation, production, consumption and waste, towards a self-generating model of managing this inevitable part of production. One of the key factors at play in this new process is creativity, which helps develop high-performing, sophisticated products that can team reuse and innovation.

One of the proposals is to develop a needle-punched fabric made from reused waste, or loom offcuts, and loom starter cloths, which are light fabrics similar to impalpable taffeta. The result is a cosy, soft fabric with a felted appearance that makes an excellent base for patches, back pocket labels and more visible outer labels. The few metres of yarn recovered from textile spools, which is not enough to be used in a subsequent production run, is shredded and mixed with cotton fibre, producing a natural-coloured, ink-free artisanal paper that can be used to make environmentally-friendly hang tags.

With its circular line of accessories, Emmetex dreams of seeing a label and ribbon woven with recycled polyester yarn, a patch made from weaving offcuts and a colourful hang tag made from unused yarn from its own production - all on the same garment. It's time to dream big!
